Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Hi Otis, I haven't removed the transmission from an S80 however from my understanding you need to do a lot more than what you are doing.

The whole subframe will need to be dropped in order to break the engine/transmission union. Another method is to pull the engine only from the top and replace the flexplate but I'm not sure you will have the clearance on this model.

When the cage is rotated by turning the crank you will see a break in the cage large enough to go past the engine RPM sensor as the engine is lifted. As you lift higher you need to turn the crank little by little to change the angle of the cage.

If I were you I would drop the subframe (you need to hoist the car up with an engine crane) This involves removing CVs from hubs and removing the exhaust manifold as well as removing some accessories from the engine.

Do you have a workshop or Haynes manual for the car? It may pay to get hold of one. Keep us posted.
