Hello everyone,
I am trying to install an aftermarket stereo on my S70.
I bought the installation kit and harness.
I connected the wires by matching the colors as shown in the attached pic.
I have 2 wires free, one is AMP TURN ON and MUTE.
When I pull out the stereo, there is two different cables, I know one of them is the antenna, but there is another one just like it. Little bit thicker. What is that one? I marked them as 1 and 2 in the picture.
When I hooked up the harness and those two cables to my new stereo, the lights came on the stereo but none of the buttons functioned.
I hooked the antenna cable and the other cable that looks like the antenna cable on the back of the stereo where I circled.
Where do I go wrong?
Thanks...

Re: 2000 S70 Stereo
The S70's had an optional two antenna system called "Diversity Tuning".
It has a regular antenna plug and a smaller "Mini-Me" antenna plug.
The big one should plug right in, but in the pic, it looks like there's
an adapter in the antenna jack in the lower left of your new HU.
Pull that adapter out and the antenna should plug right in.
As for buttons not working - Is there anything on the display?
Have you got a meter? Check power on the red and yellow leads.
Yellow is constant power and Red comes on with the key.
Be sure that they both have juice when the key is on.

Re: 2000 S70 Stereo
Thanks for your response.
Yes, the display and everything else is lighting fine just like the way it should be.
I will check the power this week.
I plugged the "1" into the blue circle and "2" into the white circle when I did this.
I thought one of them is power the otherone is antenna.
I've never installed a stereo so I just plugged those to where ever they fit

Re: 2000 S70 Stereo
The blue jack looks like an external audio input.
The white, again, looks like an extra adapter for another market,
like maybe Europe, plugged into your antenna jack. Did it unplug easily?
And what's the make and mode of the new HU?
That would be helpful.

Agreed. take the one out of the blue jack. It could be anything - like a remote mic input or something. Sounds like you don't have the power hooked up correctly. Look over everything pay close attention to the 2 power - acc and hot (bat+). check the ground and the power antenna lead. I used the amp lead from my new stereo to raise the power ant since there was now power antenna lead.

Re: 2000 S70 Stereo
Success!!
I installed the stereo finally, the problem was plugging the other power cable into the stereo so that cause some conflict I guess, I just inserted the harness to the stereo and everything worked (and antenna).
So, if you want to install a single din stereo like I did, here is what you do
- Get the harness on ebay,
- Get the installation Kit. I got it from crutchfield but I am not that satisfied with the quality and the color of the kit. It fits perfect but they should also carry the gray one for volvos, black doesn't really match well.
- I also got the cable connectors for 6 bucks, they were really handy.
Thanks for everyone responding.

Re: 2000 S70 Stereo
Now it is time to replace the speakers to get a better sound quality.
Any suggestions?
I am looking at this Alpine SPS-600 at crutchfield.

The stock speakers aren't bad. They just lack bottom end.
Get a sub first, tweak it - Then make a call on speakers.

Where can I find a Double DIN dash kit like the one shown above? Can't find one for the life of me...kringer2 wrote:BEJinFbk wrote:The blue jack looks like an external audio input.
