V70 tailgate won't close - stuck latch

Hello all, my 99 V70s tailgate won't close, my mother accidentally moved that little lock. I tried moving the handle and pull the latch down with a screwdriver. No luck. I can't figure it out. Any suggestions?

Try unlocking the trunk with the key and then pull the handle up and push the lever down with a screw driver again. This should do the job.

No luck. Got the panel off to see if there's any linkages that are off but I see none. Very frustrating.

Did you try to pull up and down on the interior hatch lock knob, located up and through the the top of hatch panel? Take off the two 10mm bolts that cover the hatch latch actuator, but beware that there is a small 3" linkage that will come with it. This linkage fits into a small hole next to the lock/unlock spring. I think there are three longer linkages including the lock knob. With the cover plate removed, you can get a good view into the internals. Did you determine if your actuator is working? Did it work before?
