gearbox problem S80T6

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

gearbox problem S80T6

Post by Slowjoe »

Further to my posting details of a trouble free gearbox, inspite of warning light showing service urgently required, I have now a slight problem occationally showing up. When I set off the car is reluctant to move immediately (similar effect of a badly slipping clutch on a manual box) 2 or 3 seconds later the car moves off and drives fine. It doesn't do this every time probably once every 100 times of setting off. Any idea's gratefully received.

Any available information as to exactly how the auto/man gearbox works ?

How can one confirm what type/model of gearbox is fitted to the car ?

Really enjoying this car that only cost £300 to purchase, apart from this gearbox niggle.

The transmission is a GM model 4T65EV-GT (GT if you have the gear tronic (manual switching) option)

Here is a link of a guy who specializes in rebuilding them.

I have not used his services but it appears that he knows a lot about these units.
He sounds very open to helping people gain knowledge so you might consider contacting him via email or ? to ask for some idea of what might be the problem, etc.

Keep us informed how you make out....

Thanks for the information. contacted the guy who replied the next day. He sugested that the fault was not common and that either a sticking valve in the tranny or a sticking solenoid was the most probable cause.I am going to change the oil or at least half of it, and the filter. see how it responds and if it still a problem then I will change the solenoids. reminder- problem was occationally slow in taking up the drive when hot or after a hard accelleration. will let you know what transpires. Thanks again.
