Unresolved Major Door Hinge Problem - HELP!

Post by typerdude »

have spent $375 so far for an auto body guy to attempt to
spot weld the driver's door hinge that has broken. it's a 98 S70
2.4L In-Line5. he's going to try one more time without charge.
my prediction is he will fail again.

Anybody have an recommendations for success. I was already told
by another body shop that whoever tries to do this should have
done it before and know what they're doing. buy I went with this
guy because I've failed to find anyone who has attempted this before.

the only other alternative is to remove the broken hinge and let the
door swing free. of course, the dealer wants nothing to do with this
repair. HELP

my mechanic followed Made In Japan's repair suggestion, and two
others with the same hinge-fix recommendation, and like magic
the hinge is now affixed by two strong bolts/nuts.
thank you all so much. my mechanic even thanked me for the
tip because now, I'm sure, he can offer that fix to all his customers
who come in with the same problem since it appears it is something
that is now coming to light and is a definite design flaw.

thanks again. typerdude/Mark P., Upland, CA

Glad it worked out! I had our old 850 do this and I didn't have the fix back then. When we went to sell (trade) our car for a new '04 V70, the dealer knocked $500 off of the trade-in value of our 850 due to the broken door stop. I wish I knew then what I know now.
