1996 850R Wagon replace door check during hinge weld?

Post by dmack87 »

I have the popping drive door on our 1996 850R wagon. Found the metal broken around the place where the door check attaches to car itself (not the door side). I am getting it repaired next week via welding. The body shop guy didn't think the check itself was broken, but I believe I saw some posts where those checks wear out. My question is, should I go ahead and replace the check while I am going to all this trouble, or leave it be?

FCP has OEM Volvo for $54:

Here is the problem if anyone is having the same door popping. You can see behind the door check where the metal is broken and flexing:

Thanks!

I welded up door check attach point last month. The door check part was fine. I would wait until shop repairs door pillar before buying a replacement.

Yeah I suppose if the check itself breaks, that is something I can fix. Unfortunately I don't have a welder, so I have a client that has a body shop taking care of it for me. Thanks for the reply.

Make sure the wiring loom gets protected during welding.
