V70 Passenger Side Door Lock - Broken?

Post by bweber »

Hi Everyone,
I'm slowly fixing up my "good deal" 98 V70 - but that has included buying and installing new master window switch - which managed to fix most of my problems except the passenger side door lock. My volvo mechanic said the motor was out and it would cost $280 to fix. I've already put over $900 into the car since I bought it last year, so is there any way I can purchase a motor and install it myself (or, rather, have my husband do it?). Has anyone done this, or are there any links to instructions on the web?
Also, I believe the car had keyless entry at one point, but I have no remote - if I get the door fixed can I buy a remote on ebay and program it myself - or is this best dealt w/ by a mechanic?
Thanks so much - this forum has already saved me a bit of money and been very informative.

Check with http://www.erievovo.com/ to see if they can get you a used motor off of a car they have taken in. They have a good reputation. In regards to the remote, even if you get one off of eBay, from '98 on, it's a dealer programable item only. Trust me, I bought one for my '98 S70 last year. If you were to do that, here's the type that you want: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1998-200 ... 1415QQrdZ1
My dealer only charged me about $25 to program mine but seems that it depends on the dealer. I've heard as much as $75 and $80, so I would check with them before you buy. I would also not tell them you got it from eBay. Just tell them that your remote quit working and see if they'll do it for cheap. Good luck.

Sent you an PM. Send me an email (badger-at-knology.net) for diagrams on how to replace the motor.
