2008-XC70-Driver side door latch broken - how to lock trunk?

Post by stefmit »

Apparently (by the signs on the dashboard, and initial inspection by mechanic) my driver side latch door broke. Volvo seems to have built way too much "intelligence" into the entire mechanism, as with this problem came along:

1. Inability to lock the doors with the remote. I mitigate this by locking the doors individually, using the legacy lock push pin that each one has
2. Inside lights not turning off. I mitigated this by turning off the ceiling lights. I observed that the feet lights (also dependent on the electronic locking of the door, as the the manual one does not seem to resolve the issue) stay on, but not for long (there seems to be a timer). I just hope my battery won't get drained.
3. The most annoying (as I can't find a way to resolve) the trunk does not seem to have an equivalent of the push pin locks that the doors have.

Unfortunately - at the quoted price of between $570 - $590 (different shops - parts and labor) to fixing this door lock, with the holidays coming up - I may have to live with the workarounds for a while.

Anyone able to answer "3" above, and/or offer other suggestions for such conditions?
