I am purchasing a 1992 Volvo 240 Wgn. with only 134k miles
The owner states that after the car sets overnight you can't get it to go into gear without reaching by the shift lever and release some button.
Help please-
I don't want to purchase it if that is a major problem.
Thanks
Jeff

This is not necessarily a major problem. For some reason the inhibitor switch is not releasing.
1. It may be as simple as fuse #7 has blown. This fuse also covers the brake lights and ABS. If the brake lights are working the fuse is OK.
2. The inhibitor switch has moved out of alignment. Re-aligning it is easy.
3. The inhibitor switch may need replacing. A little more fiddly but still a DIY task.
Bill.
