Engine Mount

Post by kcwilliams »

Hi everyone,
I am ordering parts to do a steering rack replacement on my 1998 V70 FWD non-turbo. I am fairly new to this vehicle and am still on the front edge of it's particular learning curve.

While I have changed steering racks before (Volvo 244, 740, Volks golf) I have only limited written resources to work from for this model - specifically a write up from Volvospeed (http://volvospeed.com/pdf/power_steering.pdf) and the description in the Haynes service and repair manual. The gist of the operation seems to be that the sub-frame needs to be lowered a few inches in the back (while the engine is supported) to allow clearance for the steering rack to be replaced.

Three questions:
1. Does anyone know of any other good, illustrated guides I am missing?
2. Is it advisable to pre-order/change any motor mounts with the sub-frame lowered?
3. Specifically which is the motor mount that attaches to the power steering rack (I intend to order from FCP Groton, I don't know if its bad forum etiquette, but a link/image/part number of that specific motor mount would be greatly appreciated.)

Thanks in advance.
Kevin

There are great write-ups in the 850/S70/V70 forum for steering racks.
Check out www.ipdusa.com to see what mounts you require. I caution you not to use APA/URO, but OEM.
www.volvowholesaleparts.com, www.partsgeek.com, www.fcpgroton.com, www.fcpeuro.com to get you started.
