5-qt motor oil jugs on sale at O'Reilly/Checker

Post by matthew1 »

I have no affiliation with O'Reilly in any way. Nor am I recommending these products. There is a ton of discussion on this very Volvo forum about the pros/cons of Mobil 1 and others. Also, these prices are good for my zip code. Yours may be different.

Prices effective September 28 - October 25
  • O'Reilly Synth 5qt jug $19.99
  • Pennzoil Platinum Synth 5qt jug $24.99
  • Mobil 1 Synth 5qt jug $29.99
There are many more specials, including $7.99 Seafoam (liquid) cans (how to use Seafoam on your Volvo), which isn't the deal it used to be, but it's better than the regular price of $10-ish these days.

Additionally, I got some ramps on sale for $35 the other day there. A smart-sounding older guy behind the counter said the GM brand tools they sell are as good as Craftsman. He said he's broken every kind of tool, including Snap-On, and he seemed like he knew what he was talking about, so I may get a set of those flat GM ratchets. Good for those devlish inner control arm bushing nuts, for instance.

Mobil-1 is still cheaper at Wally World - $25 here for a 5-qt jug ;)

Craftsmen tools aren't what they used to be, either - but at least they have that lifetime warranty. I broke 2 of their socket wrenches last October just putting my weight into them - my dad's 40-yr old tools wouldn't even have flinched at that kind of thing. Let us know if those wrenches are any good if you do get them.

Seafoam is great stuff if you've never used it before. My car instantly felt smoother and peppier after I just did my 2nd seafoam treatment on it.

You used you only see the 5qt bottles at walmart, now everyone is selling them. In any case, I would rather spend $21 on a gallon of 5w40 Rotella synthetic. 0w40 and 5w40 synthetics are getting harder to find at the major chains.
Ambitious but rubbish
