850 N/A Throttle Plate Swap + CAI

Post by OhioTec1 »

Does anybody know the best place to find a 65mm 960 TB plate? I seem to be striking out at the salvage yards and wasn't sure if there's any other place else that sells them (used or new). As another option, could I just take the plate out and grind down the plastic part to make it flush with the rest of the plate?

Also, I am looking to replace my factory air intake with a cold air intake. Does anybody have any recommendations as far as kits?

Thanks

Have you tried Erie Volvo and eBay? I would be surprised if both of them do not have it.

I ordered my throttle plate from Darrell Waltrip Volvo for like 11 bones shipping/handling included in that price.

I got my 960 throttle plate from Darrell Waltrip Volvo as well. Called placed order, I had it in about 3 days.

I am of the opinion, that you aren't going to greatly improve upon the factory air cleaner box of a N/A 850. Fix the flapper valve to the cold side, and buy a decent filter. It's already got the cold air intake duckted from the front grill above the radiator. If you are just looking for more intake "noise" then disregard these statements.

+1 on flipping the flapper valve to cold side.

MORE PEP! Without flooring the gas.

Sources - Tasca Volvo or Erie Vovo or Vands Auto Dismantlers. Give the last two a ring first; if not, you can go new with Tasca.

Thanks for the quick replies. I am just looking to get a little more throttle response and be able to keep up with traffic and be able to get up to speed on the highway (I commute about 50 miles/day, all highway driving). I'm definately not looking to make a tuner. Anyways, I'll get the plate from the dealer, flip the valve and get a new filter (need one anyways) and see what happens.

This is more less the main reason for swapping the TBP, to un-restrict N/A throttle response. This along with the air box mod has many of us with N/A 850's satisfied with the improvement. Good wrenching. By the way this one of the cheapest and best mods I've ever done to any of my rides.
