+1 I whole heartedly agree.

I also got my 960 plate from Daryl Waltrip (they quit selling "mail order" to the DIY folks - please let me know if they have started doing this again)

I immediately noticed a very pleasant improvement in throttle response. Like th OP, I commute about 55 miles round trip per day but it's mixed higway and "urban". I disabled the airbox flap in cold mode, changed the plate, and put in a K&N filter two years and 30K miles ago and it continues to make me smile

Some folks have suggested that the throttle mod will decrease fuel economy. I leave it permanantly in Sport mode and average 22+ MPG (I compute mileage for every tank of gas). I did not experience a change, good or bad, in MPG after the mods, but I did notice when I went for several weeks without the air guide (AKA air dam, skid plate, gravel guard, etc.) that my fuel economy dropped about 1.5 MPG.

:?: Why not just swap out the whole throttle body?

The linkage is different. (850 engine is mounted sideways; 960 is mounted lengthwise). But the plate is the same size; just the 960 one doesn't have that lip on it.

Thank you. Since I have an upcoming appointment with PCV patient, I should think that would be a good time to also make plate swap. So it is just a mater of finding a plate.

I just talked with someone at Erie Volvo and he didn't seem to know what I was talking about with respect to the tb plate mod. Does anyone know of another reliable source?

Thanks

You should be able to get it from any Volvo dealer and it shouln't be more than around $10 at the most. I seem to recall that the plate and screws together from Daryl Waltrip (in Franklin TN) were around $3-$4 at their discounted price.

The part numbers I have written down (please verify this when you speak with the vendor) are:

3501603-9 Throttle Disc; 943781-5 Screws

I think you can reuse the screws, but I was glad I had new ones because I couldn't get one of them out and had to drill it out.

Is swapping the throttle plate also relevant for turbos, or just NA models?

I live in Sweden and visited the dealer a day ago, the plate is discontinued from Volvo.
Got the same answer when I emailed Waltrip.

Any other source for these plates? Except junkyard..
