fuel pump replaced, now problems with accelerating
I just had the fuel pump replaced per the recall and issues I was having. Since I got the vehicle back, I have been watching the gas mileage go lower and lower every time I drive the car. Also, it seems to sputter when I am accelerating, feels like a loss of power for a second then jumps back into accelerating. Could this be related to the fuel pump replacement?

It would make sense since it was just replaced. Agreed. Obviously something they failed to do correctly. Take it back.

I did not want to go back to the dealership, that is why I was trying to get some feedback. I don't trust the dealership. And I was right..but I took it back anyway. They said it was my spark plugs and charged me $225. But I didn't have a problem with this prior to the fuel pump. So the acceleration problem is now fixed, still waiting for the gas mileage to go back up.

Some advice: When dealer told you "spark plugs" at $225 part s and labor, I would have thanked them and left. There are plenty of posts here on this forum which shows you how to replace (assuming you do not know how). Print the tutorial, purchase a set of spark plugs, and replace yourself. I spend a total of $32 for my spark plugs (that's because I choose Volvo OEM which run GREAT on my car) and it takes about 10-15 minutes to replace. If your plugs were bad then why didn't they say something before they returned your ride to you. That's ridiculous for some plugs, especially since swapping the plugs on your ride is quite simple, even if you've never done them B4. Good to hear your ride is back to normal though.

I will definitely try myself next time. Single mom, a couple kids and a couple jobs so its hard to find the time to get out a diagram and figure it out myself especially when I don't even know what a spark plug looks like. My original post was in hopes someone had these easy suggestions before I went back to the dealership. But who knew they would come up with spark plugs. Yeah, why didn't they tell me this before they gave me my car back? Lesson learned. I do love my volvo.

I write a journal of at what date/miles things are changed on my cars, but more often I just change everything out when I purchase a car just to be sure it doesn't leave me on the side of the road.
These things would include spark plugs, all filters (excluding cabin filter if funds are tight) all rubber hoses which carry coolant and of course an oil change.

Hey listen, if your happy with the finished product then it was worth it. I work for Toyota so I'm not mad at you for bringing your ride to your dealer for maintenance/repairs...as a matter of fact if it wasn't for people who either don't have time or know how that keeps me working. I can only speak for myself and I kinda thought you were going to try to do this yourself. I hope i didn't offend you in my last post. I know how busy life can get, sometimes I have to bring my own cars to muffler shops for certain things I don't have time to do in my driveway. Not offended. Funny story I was on top of the empire state building when the dealership (in florida) called so the easier fix for me at the time was to spend the money. Car ready when I get back sounded good at the time.
