Potential Electrical Problem 2001 V70

Post by cleaverc »

I have an odd thing happening with my electrical/lighting system. When I am driving around where I can see my inside lights (dark outside), they appear to be be full brightness, but when I turn on a turn signal, or put on the brakes, I get a momentary dimming of my console lights, radio back lighting and even headlights, perhaps a 1/4 sec "flicker". Even if I have the brakes on, and I add a turn signal, I get a momentary flicker. Is this an alternator problem, or a voltage regulator problem? Trying to figure out a good place to start troubleshooting. I don't have any caution lights, and the battery is only 3 years old (Volvo brand).

Thanks for any help.

Chris

Check the alternator for volts and loose connections. Same for the battery terminals and volt reg. Also for battery, open and make sure they are NOT dry cells in there. I used a quarter to open mine. If the battery cells are low, add some Distilled water. Also trace the positive and neg battery cable and make sure they are not dry rotten, lose, and have correct tight fit.

Sounds like bad power cable.

Bad power cable? Is that the cable that runs from the battery to the fuse block in the engine compartment? Meanwhile I'll check the alternator, battery and voltage regulator.

Thanks for the info.
