I have a 1990 240 wagon that I'd like to replace the entire exhaust on. As far as the header pipe and the cat go... I pretty sure I have an exhaust system with egr. I looked at my header pipe and there's a plug at the end near the cat. And my cat only has the sensor fitting.
So what's the difference other than the big price tag for the "with egr"?
Can I just use the parts w/o the egr??
humm????
exhaust egr vs. w/o egr

The plug in the header pipe is there to close the hole that could be used for a sensor if one was necessary. It does not indicate EGR or non-EGR. With EGR there is a reduction in the amount of Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) released into the atmosphere. NOx is formed in high concentrations when combustion temperatures exceed 2,500F.
The EGR system reduces NOx production by recirculating small amounts of exhaust gases into the intake manifold where it mixes with the air/fuel charge thereby reducing combustion temperatures and, in turn, NOx output.
The ECM considers the EGR system as an integral part of the engine control system so if it is fitted it must be kept in working condition.
I have checked some of the exhaust parts prices on our sponsors' sites and found that some of the 'with EGR' are cheaper than 'without EGR'.
Bill.
