Volvo V40 - Changing A Broken Headlight

Post by alphabetiGAL »

Can't seem to find anything on the world wide web about this for a Volvo V40, and I was hoping that other Volvo aficionados could possibly help me with this.

I got into a fender bender earlier today. The only damage to my Volvo was the left headlight, which shattered. I was wondering if anyone had any instructions on how to properly change the a broken headlight as the garage not far from my house is quoting me "around $200" and won't repair with customer supplied parts. If this is something that I can do easily (and granted, I am a little worried about possibly removing a bumper), I'd like to take my hand at it because I'm almost positive that I can find a replacement headlight for far cheaper than they can.

(Alternatively, I certainly wouldn't mind paying someone in the Seattle area to replace it if you don't mind using my parts.)

Any instructions, suggestions, or list of required tools would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for all of your help.

EDIT: If only the glass needs to be replaced, do I need to purchase an entirely new chassis? It seems that something like this (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Volvo-S40-V40-H ... 290wt_1396) is far cheaper than purchasing the entire chassis.

There are only a few bolts that hold the assembly in the car. Replacing the lens only is really tough. Hit up a junk yard and grab one from there.

Do you have any suggestions/instructions as far as how to replace the lens?

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

If only the glass is broken, no damage to the housing nor reflector then you can replace the glass only. It is held in place by 8 spring clips and you would need a new seal, all of which are provided by the eBay seller. You could also check our sponsor IPD as their price is about the same as that on eBay. Use this link to view the item and find out carriage by phoning them on their toll free line. Mention MVS.

Headlamp removal is straightforward as in the attached:
