Bad Cam sensor, 3-1-4 code, still runs.

Post by hmcasey »

Hi all.

1993 960 with 3-1-4 code, car runs ok, disconected the cps and the cars runs the same as before. Why on this car does the it still runs with a bad/no cps not hooked up?

2nd I haven't tested the sensor ie volt meter, and the hook up looks good. By just discontecting it and the car runs the same is that proof that the senors is bad? or should I probe the engine harness before I drop money on a "new" sensor?

3rd i'm at work and dont have the part number in hand. Anybody have the proper bosch part number that I could give to my locale yard?

thanks Mike

The attached shows how to test the CMP:

Disconnecting the sensor which has set the code shouldn't change the way the engine runs as the code indicates to the ECU that there is a problem. As a result the ECU will dictate the default running required. In the case of 3-1-4 the ECU will give double injection and ignition.

The part number is 9146108.

Also, try disconnecting the plug, then reconnect. Attempt to erase the stored code. Sometimes that is all that is needed.
