"Book" labor hours to install starter. Will pay for install.
I'm needing to replace my starter and looking for the book labor hours to replace. My arthritis has become worst on my wrists and needing someone to do the work for me. IF you live in Colorado, and are comfortable in replacing a starter on a Volvo 850, let me know and I will PAY YOU FOR THE INSTALL. I have the part, just need it installed. I can and would do it on my own, but my hands are killing me!

Book time is 1 hr.
It's easy to get to once you take out the fan shroud - and disconnecting things there takes like 10 minutes.
Don't live around Colorado, though - sorry!

I can't make it far -- need to do LF wheel hub really soon, the noise has become a slight vibration now, even on straights. I keep procrastinating.
I'll do it for nothing if you're nearby. Never done one, but it can't be too hard.

I'm In Gunnison, so more than likley to far to help. An idea though, any younger kids live around you that you know? If you have the knowledge, you can show them how to do it. They learn, make some money and your car is fixed, everyone wins. When I was in high school I used to help a man down the street, my dad could'nt change his own oil, He always called when it was points and condenser time, on his volkswagen , as his eye sight was not so great.

I know this post is not meant to be about the method but about looking for help, but since a suggested method has been posted it is best to clarify: Yikes! Don't take off the intake manifold for this job on your NA, that is way overkill.
Just get some light in there, then you can reach down, disconnect the starter connections, remove the mounting bolts from the trans side and the bracket you can see in cn90's great picture, then take it out. Installation is the reverse.

I did this job w/no prior knowledge/experience and w/o removing fan shroud. Access was the real drawback. I am sure if I had removed the fan shroud, it would have gone much faster, but it was 3 hrs. start to finish (at a very leisurely pace) w/o removing the fan -- a lot of that time was spent turning one bolt that I could only get about a 32nd of a turn on w/each wrench rotation because of tight maneivering space. There are, if I recall, only three bolts that hold the starter in place.

Thank you all for the suggestions and advice; in particular Matthew1. You're a stand up guy to make that type of offer to a complete stranger! This also shows in this amazing site which you have created and continued to keep up with. It has greatly assisted myself and many others.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

I replaced my starter the same way as E Showell, not taking out the fan shroud. It definitely made things harder, but I wasn't on MVS at the time, either
It was mid winter (about 10 degrees).
I'm in Littleton and would be happy to take care of this for you if you're close-by.
Hey guys, any suggestions/preferences to brands for Mr. Bronx? Any lemons to avoid?
