1991 volvo 240 Air Box Thermostat?

Post by norge777 »

I want to change the AIR BOX THERMOSTAT. Flap inside is barely open in the warm 80 degree temp.
Do I just grab and pull straight up on the old Thermostat? Then press the new one in by hand?
Or do I have to remove the whole AIR BOX and maybe depress the spring I see inside to remove?
Cannot find that much info on Google concerning this procedure. (1991 VOLVO 240).

Many thanks for any info.

The airbox thermostat when functioning properly will have no effect on you in FL. It is supposed to close at 50F so that unheated air is admitted. I would not spend the money. Pop it out and fasten door closed to the hot air hose fitting with a sheetmetal screw or drywall screw. The risk to Mass Airflow Sensor is not worth it when it does no good for preventing throttle freezing and reducing emissions.
