CD/Radio Replacement on a 2005 S40

Post by shelly4278 »

Hi I am looking for a solution for my CD/Radio. Currently my my (6)disc CD player is reading deck error with cds stuck inside. My radio works fine. The problem is my battery is being drained because of a parasitic draw from the CD player. I have taken it to two radio shops who claim they can fix it. But when I get there they do not want to touch it. There have been bulletins posted from Volvo North America about CD player. When I call the dealership they say there are no recalls.

Easiest way is to buy a new radio. I am not sure about how to even fix an issue like this, unless there is a way to 'unplug' the cd player from the radio. How do you know the CD player is your problem? Have you tried taking the radio out overnight and making sure there isn't something else causing that problem?

The CD/Radio is built into the Dash of the Car. Only a professional can take it out. The radio will run me around 700 with labor. I am willing to have it fixed. I have checked everything else. Bought a new battery. The CD player is still clicking when the car is shut off which is causing the drain.

service bulletins do not mean warranty coverage. They specify different ways to repair something from prior process.
Often the multi-disc changers will right themselves for discs out of place hanging the mechanism if the player is turned upside when power is restored. That means removing the face plate for changer and slipping it out after first undoing battery (-) cable and then holding it upside down while the cable is hooked up and then maybe turning ignition on if the cd player doesn't initialize when battery is hooked up. If this doesn't work then it is a new player unit. Some generations can have a plug n play but later have added functionality in cd player and require software reload to assure full function of whole system. Does your car have the antenna on roof that lookes like vertacal stabilzer on aircraft or is it the lower profile unit with only a vertical rib?

You can grab a used one here and put it in yourself. Then go to the dealer and tell them you need it reprogrammed if it is not working. Easy way to save some money.

I have the antenna that looks like a vertical stabilizer on an aircraft.
