Alarm system

Post by Greenqtrs »

My 2002 XC 70 with 184500mi alarm system gives a "Need Alarms System Maintenance " message. At first I noticed the exterior positioning light would blink without the beeer sounding off. At the same time the red indicator light inside the cabin would be blinking. Later, I discovered this only occurred when I activated the alarm system with the remote key. Upon locking the car with the driver side lock switch the red indicator light would be blinking when I returned to the car but no message on the message center.

The siren module need to be replaced. It is located under the fender liner of the passenger front wheel. The following link contains all the information on how to replace it. The battery inside the module leaks an acid compound and over time it ruins the PC board. The battery is of the NiMH type and life expectancy is 6 to 7 years at the most. If your module is original at this millage it is too late to replace only the battery. The PC board is corroded. You will need to change the module. It is an easy DIY project and Tasca has good price on new module. You can find more discussions on the subject on this site.
