transmission problems

car had set for about a week, i went to drive it today and now the car will not stay in park and hesitates during take off .....HELP PLEASE!!!!!

What do you mean will not stay in park... does it roll freely when you put it in park? Sudden jerks could be as simple as low fluid, or could be a sign of needing a new tranny or bad cable. Since you say it will not stay in park, and it shifts hard I would look at the shifter cable/ console to make sure they are ok. By the way if you are so unhappy with the car that your handle is "unhappyvolvoowner" then I suggest you sell the car, as getting the car fixed is unlikely to make you happy.

it is a 2002 XC70 AWD WITH 183K VOLVO
it is so strange i had no sign anything wrong with the car i left the car parked for about a week and when i got home i started the car and put in reverse and the car would not move i pushed on the gas hard and the car moved slowly out of the drive way after i was on the freeway it shifted what seemed to be ok? but as coming off the ramp i could hear the RPM's struggling to shift down
and taking off at the light the car really struggles to move but once you are going it seems ok. also when i put in park on incline the car kept rolling forward?

i hate to be negative with the sign in name but i have owned this car for about 2 years and have had several repairs on it?
i love the car but i dont think it loves me any suggestions welcome!

You are free to call yourself whatever you like. We have all been "upsetvolvoowners" at one time. We (I) are not here to judge you, but instead to try to help. Unfortunately I cannot offer any suggestions. I can tell you that I previously owned an 850 with an automatic tranny and it give all the problems listed throughout the forum. After many dollars and frustrations, I sold it and now own a 5 speed Volvo 850! The best decision I have made throughout my Volvo ownership! The manual tranny is built better and stronger, in addition, their are no PNP nightmares to deal with.

Have you checked the fluid level in the transmission? It sounds like if may be low on fluid.
