replacing the front oil seal

Post by dirtdigger »

i have a iol leak and i think its comming from the front oil seal is this usual for a 1993 volvo 850, and is it hard to replace it? ive replaced the timming belt and that was not a problem so to replace the seal do i have to take the timming belt off again and the some how take the front pully off then the gear the timming belt uses then i can take out the seal?

Wait, maybe I misunderstood. Are you talking about the front cam seals or the front crank seal? Is it leaking from the top or the bottom?

Okej, so the front crank seal needs to be replaced. Basically, you have to remove the t-belt and then remove the dampener (The thing the aux. belt fits into) w/ a ratchet and counterhold. Then you can take the crank pulley off w/ a puller. Remove the old seal and install the new one carefully and make sure it is perfectly even. Reassembly is opposite of disassembly  .
