I'll try to trace the small vacuum line, so that I can close the subject.
But the car is throwing new issues at me each day.
After running very well for four whole hours, it's now misfiring at idle (although there is no hesitation and it will
accelerate well). I can live with that.
But at night, the dashboard lights flicker along with the misfire... this does not inspire confidence..

(Perhaps I have seen too many David Lynch movies)

I have IDENTIFIED this small vacuum line, sort of. It's coming off of the large electronic box which is on the passengers' side of the engine compartment, strapped to the plastic washer-wiper reservoir. At the bottom of this unit is an electrical connector and a vacuum diaphram. There is a tube running from it to my engine. But it's not hooked to anything, and I cannot find any
small nipples around the throttle body or intake manifold where it should be connected. Of course, the Haynes book
does not have any "complete" vacuum hose diagrams for this engine (B230 with fuel injection).
The small tube is disconnected at both ends.

So, can anyone tell me if this box is part of the ignition system? I thought I saw it in the Haynes book, but I've gone through
it twice today, and I can't find it pictured anywhere. And, where should the vacuum hose go?
There are no unused nipples on the intake manifold or throttle body that I can find.
I've got a small misfire at idle and very hard starting;
otherwise good running and acceleration.. with a tiny hesitation, not much at all. So, I am still on the hunt for vacuum leaks
at this point.

thanks -
sr

The ignition control unit is attached to the washer reservoir.

You are now looking for a vacuum outlet on the intake manifold. Unfortunately my book does not give its exact location.
