Gear Selection Problem

Post by Jrob1953 »

over the last 2 months occassionally i cannot select a gear on my S40 this can be anytime and after no particular mileage but seems to b after a longer run no matter what i do i can't select a gear for about 20 mins ....the strange thing is the other day after i had driven 250 miles to Winchester i tried for hours in a car park to select a gear without success i tried pumping the clutch pedal but nothing happened. However for some reason i put my foot under the clutch pedal and pulled it back 10 times or so and this cleared the problem. i drove all the way back andleft it in a local garage they couldn't find anything wrong but it as since gone and come back again after pulling the clutch.....a really strange thing is this seems also to effect the cruise control as when i am doing my motorway driving after a while it disengages and only by pulling back on the clutch does this clear and sort itself out.

I have an automatic, but I believe that the manual's have a pump similar to the master cylinder for the brakes. This may be leaking, or your fluid may be low. Check under the hood for a fluid reservoir and be sure it is full.
