Re: Sunroof Won't Open After Battery Was Disconnected??
When I had a bad siren module in my 01 V70 occasionally the sunroof would stop working. I found that cycling the door locks would usually start the sunroof working again. No problems since I put in a new siren module, but I am still uneasy about opening the sunroof when I am far away from my garage.
0.0You might need tp buy a siren. I have had to replace several because they have shorted out so bad that they block communication in that control unit. I always tell customers that if the siren is bad DO NOT use the sunroof. Have had to close a lot in rain storms. If stuck open and nothing works will have to go into headline and use a set of jumper wires to go directly to roof motor and run it back closed this way. It is a 2 way motor so if does not move with + and - in ends switch over and should let you close all the way. You have to stop it where you want so have to watch roof to get in correct place to stop water from getting in. Have not replaced a motor yet but if can not move this way motor could be bad or track is jammed. good luck.

Hello - I did the trick with the lock and unlock 3 times and my sunroof now opens. How strange, but Thank You!
Noticed fogged up windows and water in passenger floor, car sat in street for some time during big rain storms.Found sun roof drain was plugged, opened all doors and removed carpet, vacuumed out 2 gallons of water. Now the battery needed a boost and to top it all off the sun roof would not close. Thank you so much, the manual door lock trick worked and now can spend my money on the idle pulsing issue !

WHAT A GREAT THREAD! It's years long and I read the whole thing.
People should simply resign themselves to the fact that the batteries in the alarm unit are a maintenance item.
I'm going to crawl into my RF fender (2007 V70 base) tomorrow and change the batteries before all this NEEDLESS INSANITY arrives at my doorstep.
Remember, my doorstep is your doorstep.
ps I hate sunroofs and ALL OTHER toys in cars for this* and other unforeseen reasons. * = NEEDLESS codependent computerized communication systems.

I solved mine by using 2 NIMH phone batteries, 3.7v each. Total volts 7.4
I ran the wires out of the alarm box and remote mounted them....the new batteries wouldn't fit in the box anyway.

Roll down drivers window and close door
lock car and wait 1 Minute.(this will set the alarm system even if siren is bad)
Reach in through open window and open door(will set off alarm)
Use key in door to shut off alarm
Sunroof works.
Have been doing this for seveeral years and works every time.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I found myself in awe, as my attempt to close my sunroof, in the same manner as l had hundreds of times before, FAILED! It wasn't a huge concern, at the moment, since all remnants of Hurricane Harvey had just left my area earlier that morning. The weather forecast was showing a <30% probability of rain three days away.
I had already learned about the "lock/unlook x3" fix for the rear view mirror/light panel/sunroof in-op problem. So, naturally I tried that method first, with no luck, followed by another 4-5 other possible Googled-remedies all resulting in failure.
I was on my last nerve and on the verge throwing in the towel! (Save for walking away from the problem until the following day and attempting to tare everything out, in hopes that I would find a way to manually close the sunroof.)
Repeated searches via Google and then various Volvo site specific message boards resulted in all of the same methods I had already seen/tried over and over again, but just worded in slightly different ways.
BEETLEBOB'S suggested remedy was the ONLY one that finally worked for me and I can now happily say that my sunroof is CLOSED.
My alarm system sirens' failure is the culprit behind my sunroof opening, but then failing to close problem.
