Annoying front hub rattle , solved !

For a while now Ive been getting an annoying rattle from the front hub whilst going over bumps . I noticed it was'nt there if I braked on a bump so while I have a week off work I had a nosey . Long story , short , it was the three spring clips that hold the pad to the caliper piston . After a little bending , cleaning , new caliper springs (for good measure) and a bit of copper-grease on the connecting edges we have silence . Also (using yet another excellent guide) I took the opportunity to replace the passenger side bum warmer (went well , so thanks to all for that) and my Missus repaired the split seam and tear in the seat back (what a woman!) . Tomorrow I'll get around to fitting the braided brake hoses and that will do for another month or two . Also , recently I got a set of Continental Contact2 tyres fitted and have found them to be really good in all respects , don't know if it's coz my old tyres were so cruddy and worn but the old girl feels quieter , smoother and more planted .

Nice work!

While you're getting at the brake hoses, give a thought of replacing (not just bleeding) the brake fluid. It'll get mushy after a few years.

Thanks guys , and yeah i'm gonna change the fluid too , it looks a little grubby . Gonna have to do it Saturday now coz I can't get the connections between the main steel pipe and the flexi hose to budge , think i'm gonna need a lift and some heat !!!

I really thought that was the way things were gonna go and it don't look to much fun . Fortunately for me using a little heat and holding the hard line nut with vice grips , I cut the old flexi hose and slipped a 14mm ring spanner over the cut piece to pull against (in effect winding the flexi off the hard line) did the trick . On the rear hose in front of the fuel tank I didn't fancy using the torch and got away with the above without heat , it really seemed to be so much better winding the flexi of the hard line than vice versa , obviously not an option if your not renewing the flexi's . With regards to your bleed nipple issue , mine are 10mm at the front and 8mm at the back and all four calipers look original , more Volvo weirdness ?
