05 S60 Transmission fluid?

Hi friend of mine has an 05 s60 he states the trans is starting to slip a bit 115000 in the odo. how can he check and should he and can he flush his transmission, I've heard its sealed?, is there anything he can do??? anything to look out for in this case.

If the trans fluid is dark brown and smells burnt, it is time for some new ATF. Search the repair database for trans flush. The procedure is more of a drain and fill. Looks like the consensus is to use Mobil Synthetic ATF, and to not have the trans flushed at a place.

You use Mobil 3309, Toyota type IV, or Valvoline max life
You do NOT use Mobil "ATF Synthetic"

NONE of the above are synthetic.

You may need software upgrades and a reset of the tranny adaptions, all of which need to be done at a Volvo dealer if the tranny is not already shot!

I was just about to chime in too. DO NOT use anything other than what JRL mentioned. You will kill your transmission and I dont want to hear you complaining about it! =)

I apologize. I definitely meant the 3309, but couldn't remember for sure. I did not realize there was something called 'Mobil Synthetic ATF'. Again, I am sorry .

Now the other question was how can he check it according to him it's a @)@@:( to get to and there's no dip stick?
How can the fluid be checked ? is there a how to thread on this topic?

It has a dipstick, its down underneath the airbox. It is yellow and has a catch on the tube that has to be pried back and the stick simultaneously pulled out, you/he will probably have to do this with one hand.

2005 5 speed?
Of course there's a dipstick....albeit hard to find!
You may have to move the air snorkel out of the way.
It's towards the rear of the engine compartment, left side of engine (right side as you're looking at it) way down and buried
Should have a yellow top on the stick

Cheapest place to get that stuff is a Toyota dealership. It's the same stuff you get from Volvo but a third the cost.
