V40 heating issues.

Post by Grahill68 »

Hi All,

Problems started with my 96' V40 about 4 weeks ago. Problem being there is no heat into the cab from either the A/C or the blower motor.
All fans work ok. A/C switches on but blows cold or colder.
Engine temp was constat 76-78 degrees, so I changed the thermostat & coolant, now runs at 86-87 degrees but still no heat!
There are signs of excessive exhaust mist not smoke with i understand may indicate a head gasket fault but, i'm not loosing coolant from the system? another thing worth mentioning is there seems to be no build up of pressure in the cooling system. I am able to remove the header tank filler cap with only the smallest of hiss noticable. Now i know this can't be right.
I've read the usual posts about leaking heater matrix's and undercarpet water pooling but as I said, I'm not loosing coolant and now i'm just confused.
Winter is now upon us, i'm in the Uk and starting to freeze :(

Any advice?

Hi,

have you felt the hose leading to the blowers to see if it's hot - you may have a air trapped in the system which could just need bleeding. There should be a hose leading to matrix after the thermostat, if this is full of air no warm water will get to matrix to produce the heat.
Never had this issue on a volvo but on I have on other cars, VW's and fords etc.

Sid.
