Reuse torque converter bolts?

Post by NC-MULE »

2000 S70 2.4L 4 valve non turbo

Called a few places and no one stocks the torque converter bolts, so I'm wondering if people just reuse them. Found one post on here and they mentioned loctite but did not say what color, assuming blue.
How much risk am I taking by reusing them, I don't want to wait a week to get them from Volvo.

Thanks pb

I bought new ones. They have red loctite on them. I talked to the Volvo guy and said he wasn't sure why they get tossed.

When I asked this question over on Volvospeed, a large fraction of the people there said just reuse them. So I did too.

Awesome, I'll do the same. Choguy, you said they had red loctite on them. I thought you had to use heat to get a fastener back out that had red loctite. I've never used red on anything but have used a lot of blue.

Just checked loctite.com and they said red has to be heated to 500F to be removed. Think I'll use blue unless someone has a strong opinion to use red.
Thanks pb

Well, I guess I should say that they had a red sealer/loctite on them. I am guessing that it isn't loctite, so I will say go with the blue.
