V70XC Transmission Issues (flashing light + CEL)

Update: worst case scenario has occurred. Fluid drained had pearly aluminum sheen to it. Decided on a rebuild from a good local transmission shop as its $1k cheaper than the Volvo remanufactured transmission. Stars another thread about it, but I'm thinking about adding an auxiliary transmission cooler while the tranny is rebuilt to try and keep the temp down even further. Maybe even an inline filter...

Final update on this issue:

First the damage. I'll attach pics later, but the short answer is the tranny fluid had apparently overheated at some point and a small piece of metal broke off and clogged a race, leading to a catastrophic loss of oil and the bearing on 4th gear failing, this then lead to more bits of metal which destroyed the housing as well and rendered the tranny unrebuildable (if that's a word).

After some tough economic math, I decided to get a Volvo Remanufactured Transmission and add a long brand transmission cooler. 500 miles since all of the work and it seems to be doing great, unlike my bank account.
