Slow Starting V40 T4 1998

Post by Sid1972 »

Hi folks,

bit of a problem with my V40 - for a few months now the car seems to take a few turns to start, was not like this before :(

Does not matter if cold or hot it just seems to do it, no running issues and it always start but is it likley to get worse?

The Oxygen sensor has been replaced, but the garage states its like the fuel system drains and then has to fill again.

Any help would be fantastic and please be kind as it my first post

Thanks again,

Sid.

Is the check engine light on? If so, what codes are showing up?
My first guess, based on the way you described the problem, would be a faulty Fuel Pressure Regulator.
I replaced mine last month after experiencing similar symptoms. If it's not the FPR, it seems likely to be fuel related.
I suppose there could be a fuel line leaking somewhere, or a problem with the fuel pump, but my bet is on the FPR.

When I looked up your car on VADIS, it looks like there might be two fuel pressure regulators, one on the fuel rail in the engine bay, and one under the car near the fuel filter. Maybe it's an either or type situation? I'm not sure. I tried looking up the part online, but came up with nothing. Try calling a Volvo dealership to get the part specifics. Maybe they could tell you if your year comes with two FPRs. You might run the idea past your mechanic too.
