Re: 2000 v70 Blower Motor/Resistor Question

Post by Wongster »

I have the exact same problem. Blower motor will come on sometime after hitting a bump. When it does come on, it is stuck to full power all the time. Does that mean I have to replace the resistor pack as well?
I just ordered a new blower motor, can't wait to install it. We're getting -15C these days.

Thanks

Sounds like you have a shorted power stage ( "resistor pack" ).
If you want more options than full speed, get a new one.

You may also have some overheated connectors at/between the motor
and the powerstage that are causing the motor to respond to bumps.
Take a close look at the connectors when you swap the motor.

I pulled out the motor and sounded like there's a loose part in the motor. Now whenever the motor doesn't work it will start if I give it a little kick. I also opened the resistor pack everything looks fine, nothing seems to be burnt. My new blower motor should be arriving tomorrow. Someone in previous post said that I might need to unplug the battery to reset the AC unit? Could that be it?

I don't know if this is common or not but I pulled my intermittent blower motor only to find the spot weld ground to the case had broken loose. Currently now trying to decide how to reattach it. Thinking spot weld but worried about putting that much juice into the motor. Tap and bolt, but worried metal shavings in the motor. Epoxy and solder but worried that if it broke a spot how well will these hold. Also thinking of hitting the local yard and pulling one of one of the XC70's.

Commenting for any other future searchers.
I just replaced my noisy but functioning fan on a 2004 S60 with ECC. When I reassembled it with the old resistor it would not function at any setting. Fan tested good. Power connector red wire; 12+ volts.
I did disconnect the battery before I took out the fan module, but had reconnected it to drive while waiting on the part. I disconnected the battery again, plugged in the fan/resistor module, connected the battery, turned on the key and all fan speed worked perfectly!
Thanks Jimmy!

The power stage is powered up all the time and does not go off with key so to assure that is powers down and will attempt blower start again disconnect battery.

It's important to note the ECC controls the fan digitally not with the voltage divider of your fathers Oldsmobile.
