the ECU is serialized with the VIN on 99 and later models and i doubt you'd be able to get the car to start after an ECU/TCU swap

If that's true the VIN would have to be stored on a chip somewhere. Where is that chip??
The body of the car & wiring itself CANNOT store the VIN code.
I think this is why so many ECU swaps fail. Because they are paired in programming to the TCU they must be swapped in pairs.

Yes, and from one of the moderators from the links:
"You can do a swapover of ECU's only if you swap over ETM, ignition, and keys along with the ECU itself. So if you find a salvage car, you can swap over all of those components"
So the key, (pardon the pun) is to swap over the above items as well.

Yeah I figured that out today. The car would roll over but not start. I ran out of time and either one of these cars was just going to be a winter car and maybe if it made it through a winter(I have no doubt) my wife could use it and get rid of her rotten honda.
I'm just going to use the not so good body car and deal with it. The better bodied black one will just be a parts car. I'm still going to use a scope tomorrow at work to look inside the intake manifold runners. I had all kinds of mouse crap inside the intercooler piping just outside the ETM. If it popped its head up it could have pushed on the throttle plate and climbed right up inside the intake manifold.

I have spark on cylinders. I've checked each coil one at a time with the spark plug out and grounded to the valve cover, great spark on all 5. I even removed the harness loom and swapped all injector connectors(from cylinder 1 to 5) around so that connector 1 is now at 5 figuring that if I had broken wire at cylinder 1 it would change to 5. Nothing changed I still had a dead cylinder 1 and 2 while disconnecting injector or coil at cylinder 1 and 2.

Hey 99_xc70 I was trying to figure out how to PM but couldn't find it, if you're going to junk/use the car as a parts car, would you be willing to sell some parts? I'm looking for the reading light on the rear drivers doors as well as both of the rear door lock actuators.

I still have a few more things to try out tomorrow but more than likely it's going to be the ecu that's the problem and I'm not going to spend $300 to tow my car to the nearest volvo dealer to replace and reprogram the ecu and it still not be the problem. Today I removed the intake manifold to clean out the pcv system. Tomorrow I will have it back together and running and if it's still dead on two cylinders it will a parts car. I will probably put it up on here to part out. It is 100% complete and in amazing condition.

Are you sure those injectors are operating?
Is power geting there and are they opening?
Do you know anyone with an oscilliscope or a data logger?
