Transmission Fluid
Yesterday I had to replace the radiator in my wife's 2005 S80 2.5T. I lost about 1 cup max of trans fluid when I disconnected the trans coolant lines from the radiator. I also noticed it was looking pretty dark. I would like to flush the fluid and bring it back to proper level, but where there is normally a small dip stick (like on my 2003 V70) all there is is a short section of small diameter rubber hose attached which is capped on the top. I'm 99% certain that's the way it came out of the factory. How does a person service these transmissions?

If you replace the fluid via the top hose, the fluid will pump out from the radiator's connection not the hose. The hose sent with IPD's kit will fit inside the connector and can be held there or duct taped. The IPD kit has everything you need. I got my fluid at Toyota. Their Type VI fluid is the same as Volvo's or Mobil 3309. They use the A/W transmission in some of their autos.

I'll take another look for the dipstick under the rad hose. For fluid, I've ordered Mobil 3309 from a place called AV Lubricants ~ $65/case + $18 shipping. That beats what the local Toyota dealer wanted. I didn't even ask the local Volvo dealer for obvious reasons.
