All wheel drive

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

All wheel drive

Post by tridents65 »

Today I looked at a 2006 S80 turbo with all wheel drive. I don't know a thing about all wheel drive. Have these been reliable on the Volvos. The car has 63,000 mi. and at the mileage I would not expect it to have any problems at this point. But down the road whats the track record on these? Any advise would help. The car was at a new car Volvo dealersd lot. The price I am about to agree to seems good (15,000?) it has all the beels and whistles far as I can tell. The dealer has specnt about a grand on a few minor cosmetic touch ups. I didn't want to sign the dotted line untill I got some feed back from this group (Matthews) hasn't failed me yet with my daughters '95 850.

By 2006 most of the bugs were worked out. Pressure sensor in the AWD Haldex unit is sometimes an issue as is the coupler between the transmission and the angle gear. I suggest changing out the front and rear Diff fluid as well as the Haldex , as soon as you buy it and then every 30,000 miles.

Even if it cost twice as much to maintain the system as it does I wouldn't hesitate a second. AS far as the price on the car goes I do not have time right now to look into it. Check www. nadaguides.com and see what clean trade in is. I would pay around that price but never higher than retail.

NADA retail price for my zip code is 16,225. With the work the dealer did to prep the car (about 700 in parts and about 1100 in labor) I think the sales price at 15,000 is acceptable. Why is it then thats it's 3:00 in the morning and I woke up with cold feet? :) Buyers remorse? At 15 grand it's a lot of money to me. Think I'll read some more and try to go back to bed.
Happy new year!

update: Bought the car at 14,600.00 I have been driving it a bit now and all seems to be in working order except for a hopefully easy fix for a problem I have explained on a new post. I've ordered a new set of plugs. Other than that I don't think I have any issues to deal with. Back to work this week end on my daughter '95 850. Also, a pretty good car.
