P0101 andP0170 VC 90 2006

Post by whaleplane »

Hey guys,

My check engine light came on and had the codes checked and came up with two. P0101 and P0170. Both as far as I can tell reference a MAF sensor issue. I went ahead and cleaned it but it is still showing the codes. It also has a bit of a rough idle as well. My first thought would be to replace the MAF sensor, not hard to do but expensive, but I've also read on a few posts that it could have something to do with the O2 sensors. The car has 105,000 miles on it. In general is that a good number for the working lifespan of the MAF sensor and or the O2 sensors?

Any comments on the codes and a solution would be greatly appreciated.

What did you do/have done to clean the injectors?

My 2006 XC70 with 127K was throwing the same two codes under the same circumstances.

Basically the car was running fine, then upon starting it one day there was a rough start, the CEL light came on and the car had a rough idle. I pulled (and cleared) the CEL codes (P0101 and P0170). At that time I changed the MAF (new Bosch OEM) and I believe I used some Techron fuel additive to clean the injectors. Car ran fine until about 2 weeks ago.

This time I confirmed and cleared the codes and then added the Techron and it seems to have worked (fingers crossed). I've had great success with the Techron in other cars as well. Will definitely try it again if it comes back in a few months. Otherwise I am thinking of taking a look at the throttle body as I had to clean one out on a 2002 S60 non turbo, with good results.
