Re: noisy lifter
So familiar! When I got my 97 850R 9 years ago it had a very faint (steady) clicking. Nothing to concern me at the time. I and the previous owner used only Mobil 1 10-30 and OEM filters, Volvo or MANN (only MANN for past 5 years). Clicking got louder and finally took it to my indie for a look-see-hear. He and I agreed tappets. His solution was replace the full set. A $1,200 later (with some other work at the same time, still clicking. Now, after 5 years since replacing tappets and 9-10 years since first noticed still clicking away. Cold, warm, hot...all the same. I don't THINK it's enough to worry about right now, but it's on my list for next summer. Pull the oil pan and replace the sump pickup o-ring and well as any other seals/0'rings. If that doesn't do it (stop the clicking), I give up and drive it tll death do us part.

I would say start with the O-rings at the oil pickup tube, BUT it just sounds like it's one lifter instead of all of them.
Does this engine get to see high RPM often?

Yeah, it sounds like it runs fine - but that wasn't what I was asking. Is it always driven around town at low RPM or do you wind it up past 4000 every now and then?
Sometimes long periods of high RPM can be good for an engine and free up a stuck hydraulic lifter. Deposits build up on the valves, etc, if the engine is just loafing around.
A seafoam treatment in the intake/oil could also do it well. Someone shut up a ticky lifter on theirs with it recently.

Hi. I would replace o ring seals on oil pump intake first.
Check for oil volume-start car, remove oil filler cap, it should be "flooded" w/oil w/idling.
Made a world of difference on my '95 T,had 120K;now 220K.
They are going to need replacement anyway-critical! Provides lube to ALL of engine-read: Turbo, etc.
You may also wish to try Auto RX treatment. Some have had good results.
HTH.
Cheers.
