If you just need to change the heater core, don't touch the coupler on the engine side - the coupler usually breaks.

That said, if you haven't replaced heater core hoses ever before, I recently just had one burst and leave me stranded halfway across town. They're a pain to get to, but one of those preventative maintenance things you should do with a car this age. If you're doing those, may as well order the kit JDS listed above and the firewall coupler.

Radiator hoses are an essential item too. Those should be changed every 5 years or so.

The steam from the vents INSIDE the car only says heater core.

Drive it without coolant in there, you will blow a head gasket. Replace that core before you drive anymore if it's losing coolant that quickly!

Your carpet inside is probably quite damp around the center tunnel if it's losing coolant at that rate.

okay so now everything was going well but now i broke the piece that the heater core tubing clips into. does anyone know what this piece is called or what the part number is. it looks like it comes from the firewall down into the cabin.
