I have a 2000 Volvo V40 1.9T. About a month after I bought it, I drove it somewhere and it wouldn't start. The dash lights and fuel pump worked, but it wouldn't start.
At the shop they installed a new ignition cylinder for about $400. Yesterday I had the same problem as before--the car wouldn't start. A few hours later it did, though. And this morning I drove it to school and back. A few hours later, it wouldn't start when I needed to go to work. Now, about ten minutes ago, it started fine.
Has anyone experienced similar issues?

Yes, I have and it turned out to be the starter. Before you purchase it, have it tested an an Autozone or O'Reillys; its free. It can also be your cables and a number of other issues. Check this forum, plenty of posts on this particular issue.

Generally not. When the ignition cylinder was replaced, I was given an extra key that the mechanics machined. When I tried to use that, I did get the immobilizer light. But after locking/unlocking 5 times it went away.
