Which tyres are best (I have 2 in mind)

Post by dgg9879 »

I'm an Aussie looking for good new tyres for around $600 (4 tyres fitted and balanced). I mainly drive on suburban roads and want the safest tyres I can get for this cost.

I phoned up a few tyre places.

I was recommended Michelin Energy XM1, Goodyear NCT5 and Yokohama C drive.

From research on the net I decided Goodyear NCT5 does not handle well enough in the wet but could not gain enough information to be sure whether the Michelin or Yokohama is better, although I'm leaning towards the Yokohama.

Please provide some feedback. Which tyre is better for the money (and my needs)?

Yokohohama C drive

or

Michelin Energy XM1

If anyone has other tyre recommendations I am happy to take those into account too.

Had Yokohamas on my old 940 - didn't last very long. Have always found Pirelli P6000 to go well with my V70. UK V70's predominantly had these from new I believe.

Depends on what type of driving you do mostly. On my wife's V70 ('04), we're running Bridgeston Turanza LSV's and love them...very quiet and responsive. Has great ratings too...and in your price range. Check out www.tirerack.com Also, many have been running the Avon Tech tires and rave about them as well...much much cheaper, btw.

Have the Mich. Energies on my S70 now (came with them). They are decent, but over-priced for what you get as there are better choices out there for the same money. Terrible in the snow and some hydroplaning on really wet surfaces, but good on dry.
