2002 S60 Trunk won't open with remote or switch

My trunk won't open with the remote or by using the soft switch "handle" on the trunk. I can open the trunk using the key.

I can hear an electronic "click" when I press the trunk "handle" but the latch doesn't open so the trunk doesn't open.

Both of my remotes lock/unlock the doors as they should. Neither remote opens the trunk.

This happened after my car was detailed. The guy put my mats in the trunk, closed the lid, and went to get me to show me he was done. When he tried to pop the trunk lid to show me the mats were inside, nothing happened.

One minute it worked, the next it didn't. I had also used the trunk right before he came to remove all items from the trunk.

Is there somewhere they would be cleaning/polishing where they could have disconnected something?

I checked the fuse and it is okay which I assumed to be the case because I can hear the switch/trunk handle making a light clicking sound when I press it.

I found the source of the problem. The "only the key will open the trunk" button in the cabin was engaged.

I've driven the car for 7 years and I have never noticed this button. Luckily, it caught my attention (light was on because it was engaged) this morning while I was rearranging mirrors, etc. after driving it for the first time post detail.

Thats kinda funny. It got down to 25below today(celsius) and I clued into the fact that I don't know what half the settings on my climate control are for.

hmmmm my 2001 and my 2007 S60 are both lacking this switch. I wonder if the rest of the wiring and logic are in place and its just a switch I could add ?

Why would you want it? What's the scenario under which it would be used? I can't picture when I would want the trunk to be opened only with the key and someone did not have access to the cabin (where they could reset the switch).

I think you are supposed to use this switch when you use the valet key. It's supposed to keep the valet out of your trunk. If I remember correctly, if you start the car with the valet key and this switch is engaged, you will not be able to turn it off until a master key is used.

I don't have a valet key to test it but it makes sense.

The detail guy is relieved that everything was working again.

Well, it turns out I do have this switch. I never noticed it either.

ANd its not listed in the manual anywhere.

The valet key already prohibits access to the trunk.

To use this feature you have to HAVE the non valet key, turn the ignition on, then activate it. When activated, it will not allow the trunk to unlock by unlocking the central power locks.

The only scenario I can envision is if you want to lock the trunk but leave the windows or sunroof open. Then no one can reach in and unlock the trunk via the central lock mechanism.

That makes sense. I have a sunroof so I might use that feature when it's very hot here in FL in the summer.

Do you have a sunroof?

my trunk release clicks a few times and then blows a fuse. where to start to find the short?. I bought a used rear harness but that much spaghetti will ruin me. Should I move some of the relays on the rear block to see it the problem moves? WILL A BAD RELAY blow fuses?
