Creaking sound in dashboard

Post by sealuva »

I know this has been addressed somewhere, but I've spent too much time looking. I've had this darn creeking sounds coming from the dashboard, all over the place. Like dry plastic on plastic rubbing together. What can I do to aleveate this? It's driving me nuts. Thanks

That's how I deal with it.

Or, on a more serious note, you'll have to fix the mounts:

What's confusing? Basically, the dash has to be removed re: the evaporator replacement tutorial Lee linked to. Then he went about reinforcing the crappy plastic mounts with metal strips to keep the dash from moving around and squeaking/clicking/rattling.

It's NOT a small job for a small, annoying problem.

Once I bought a can of spray foam removed the lower dashes and (carefully) filled the upper corners with the stuff.
Problem solved. It got rid of 99% of the noises
I have no idea what you would find if the dash needs to be removed, say for a new evaorator, etc

JRL how did you remove the lower dash? I am really novice. Funny you said that cause I bought that wanting to do the same thing but haven't figured out how to do it. How long did it take? Thanks

Lower dashes just snap out and in
Many are coming loose now (the cheap clips break) and are held by a screw on the ends
