S40 automatic transmission failure

Hi all,
there is something wrong with my car , the arrow in the dashboard is blinking frequently and i dont know why. i checked the manual and they say that there is automatic transmission has a fault.... and i must see the dealer . but is this thing is bad or what are the causes???/
