I have seen posts on this site (or was it Volvospeed?) of how to find/read the casting number. Do some searching if you want to find it up front. But yeah, once you get the head off it will be easy ...
You could get working, used valves from a junkyard head. Last time I had the head cleaned, planed, one valve replaced, valve job, new valve stem seals, at a quality machine shop, it was $375 IIRC. But I live in the midwest US where things are on the cheap side.

I was just poking around at the car for a couple hours, trying to get some things taken apart, and some others PB-blasted. Drained coolant from bottom of radiator, rear of engine spout won't budge yet. I have a feeling that's a sign of things to come.
Here are the Exhaust Manifold Nuts. I was going to PB-Blaster them now, and over the next couple days, so they're ready to come off in a couple days. Some aren't even nuts anymore.
This line, the tiny metal one, the hose going to it used to have a squeeze clamp on it. It's completely rusted off. And right near the middle of the line, there's just a section missing where it lost a battle to rust. Crazy.
I wonder if that'll.."crumble" off. Or if I'll be able to get the nuts off somehow? I should have known though, it's a Newfoundland car.

Man that's tough, all that rust. Maybe it'll come loose.

Cylinder Head Casting Number Location Is Here: It's under the plastic valve cover. Starts with "100...."
Hoped that'd make it easy for anyone searching for this info to find it. (Guess I never noticed it
)
I went at this today, spraying and praying. PB Blast-awaying. Turbo to exhaust flange. To give me some room. See the one on the right? I started to come loose. Then I realized it had just cracked.. and then it came out: The second one came off with a mixture of PB, and gentle slow pressure from a 1/2" ratchet with a cheater bar. Sometimes ya (I) feel like a quick jerk will break it loose... It won't I guess, it will break it though most likely.

Hello,
I've been flat out the last 2-3..4 days? It's all blended into one long day at this point.
I decided, as it was really my only option at the time - as time, money and other factors were concerned, to strip my Red S70 SE5. Sad.
I'll post some pictures when I get a chance.
Depending on if I get a job here in the next few days to couple weeks, I may be able to stay here and work on the cars/take a head off the RED and at least show photos of progress with that. Then maybe I'll attempt to fix the head, over time. But if I do, I'll share that.
I have to try n get the steering column ignition tumbler out today, I found the thread... sounds like great fun (sarc.). :/
I can't even get the ignition (left side of steering) to come out. Haynes says there is a hole and you need something about 2mm in diameter to insert to release the ignition. I looked for a long time, at first on the RIGHT side of the steering, and didn't find it anywhere.
Thanks.

Sorry about your car, I cringed when I saw the rust and the exhaust bolts. I wish you lived a little closer to me so i could help
. Sounds like a lot of fun to rebuild the head, as long as you have to time and money.
You'll get through it though, and look back and think it was easy.
Also, I bet your turbo is in pretty bad shape. I have a working one (~124k on it). It is missing an exhaust mani stud, but i can grab a new one.
If you get the car up and running and the turbo isnt great (ruled everything else out) i got a cheap one for ya

Hey man,
Kind of you to offer anyways.
How is your stage 0 / whole journey going anyway?
I have the car all-but-dismantled now...even started on the interior; switches, ignition, taking the tumbler assembly. It's funny cause I probably could've had the head off by now...definitely.
Aside from seals, which you can't really tell by looking(?), what is there to check for on a turbo? Mines out, no shaft play...
The banjo bolts at the turbo (terminology?), well the other ends came out of their holes on the block etc like they weren't even held in by anything! I don't know how it wasn't dumping coolant and fluids everywhere man.
I'm debating beating that exhaust mani. off and taking off the head just for the experience and maybe to have it for a project some time. But I have so many things right now to consider and no time to do it all that I can't focus or get anything finished
More to a turbo rebuild than just buying the kit hey? Getting it clocked, etc...?
Here's just one photo of the turbo that came out.

Glad you got it out! I think you need to have it balanced. To get it professionally rebuilt and balanced, its about $100. I'd recommend that, but seeing as you are in a pinch and probably already spent more then i have, an ebay turbo rebuild kit will work. THEN get it balanced. These things spin at ridiculously fast rpms. Any wobble will show itself by shredding your turbo, and all your work. Unfortunately, it also looks like the hull has been corroded. So basically, you can take it apart to see if its worth rebuilding, or just rebuild it. what sucks is that after you take it apart, you have to re-balance it, and so you might as well rebuild it right then and there. or throw it out. A moment of truth if you will :p. And I believe you're referring to the studs? Or are they actual bolts ON the turbo?
And thanks for asking, I got my 16t and exhaust and all that jazz in and got my hands on an ARD Green tune. My 0-60 hasn't improved much because i haven't adjusted the cam timing yet. (its about 7.22, measured by me lol) and so ALL of my power is in the top end. But it yanks your head back and carries you to infinity and beyond
.
Honestly, I think everyone should have a White tune for more performance, and fuel economy. It's not to stressing and as long as your car is in good shape it will be fine (I know because my PCV is so bad it blows oil all over the intake manifold and stuff when i press the go-baby-go button.)
Good luck on your car, i really hope you can get it going good. These things are great when running well.

Not sure what ya mean by ARD green tune, or white tune. ECU, injectors?
Once I get this new T5 SE's rollers, tensioner, belt done (and feel safe
First I wanna see if I can fix it hard steering. Then PCV, start trans drain/fill, vacuum hoses etc. etc.
Would you do a seafoam before you change out your old hoses and stuff (and with cheap-o canadian tire oil) so ya don't mess up your new stuff. Or wait for the new stuff and then do it? PCV first, or after?
The ticking in this new car just makes me sad, and miss my Red S70 - engine on that one was great.
