Do you drive an 850 with S70 arms or the other way around?

Just to clarify

I am having the issue and its an 850 (my car) with s70 arms (donor car) and it is hitting the hood.
I have the passenger side S70 arm on the driver's of the 850 and vice versa. Works fine, its not hitting anything.

Was it just the driver side hitting before?

I'm surprised so many of you are having similar issues. I have a '96 850 and I took off the cowl & the blades multiple times over the summer (evap core, new dash, etc, etc). I accidentally stripped the splines on the arm side last time I took them off. To remedy this I bought new (used) S70 arms because I'd read they are better. Once installed the LH side was rubbing on the paint, so I figured I'd just stick with 850 arms. When I swapped the S70 for the 850 arms they still rubbed, and I figured I just didn't have them tight enough. This ended badly with me breaking the spindle... new wiper assembly later and I still have the rubbing problem. When the arms are at the top of their stroke the driver's side pushes enough to lift the hood  I am going to have to bend the heck out of the arm for it to stop rubbing. Does anyone know if there are multiple wiper arm part numbers, or was just one offered for the 850?

I had the lift-off problem on my '93 850. Got an arm from a '96 850 at the UPull. The new arm has a higher arc along the thin steel band between the aluminum mount piece and the blade connector. The aluminum part that bolts to the drive spline clears the hood. It works great.

I see that this isn't a timely reply, but others might be curious as well.
RE: Anybody have an opinion on bracketless wiper blades vs. regular blades?

I think I'm using what you refer to. The blade is just arched without the typical bracket assembly holding it together.
That was my attempt to mediate the driver side lift issue. It works pretty good to, lifts in the center first but allows top and bottom viewing! (great if you're short or tall)
I have no idea how well it does with snow or slushieness, but with plain rain, on the section that is touching the glass, it works very nicely.
Will get on with the "Official" modification tomorrow. It's such a no-brainer. I even saw that those stops were there, but it didn't occur to me to modify them!

Regarding the springs being too slack when the arm is in its normal position after grinding down the stoppers: don't worry, they are still very taught and IMHO have no chance of unhooking.

I used a round file, but a flat file would have been even easier. Next time around I could do this in 10 minutes. It's very easy, especially if you have a table vice to hold the arm while you operate on it. For the "up" side, I put a rag between its surface and the vice so as to not mar it. This is a very easy, free fix. Thanks phat78ta!
