Code P1610

Post by 2002V70 »

First post and might as well make it count. I had the dreaded ETM failure today (I think). Pulled the code with the reader and came up with P1610. Am I correct in my assumption or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Thanks for any info.

Go to www.VEXEDvolvo.org for more info. I think DonW has a list of valid codes, or at least the code tree whereby they try to sidestep their responsibility.

Code P1610 translates to Volvo code ECM 903F, which you will find in the reference Bud gave you under tech net notes 25-149A, where the code is prominently mentioned as an ETM failure indication. Drive the code in to a dealer if you can.

Well, Volvo of Mississauga would only do an ECM update after extorting $50.00 from me for "troubleshooting" the problem. I guess I will probably get stranded again with my V70 when the ETM finally packs it in for good.

Sadly, you can count on it. :(

I'm a little confused, because I thought the ETM problem did NOT include '02 V70's. I knew that some '02's were involved, but maybe now we are going to see the real extent of this problem, and coverup.

Be sure to save all your ETM related receipts so you can try to get remuneration for all costs after your ETM fails and gets replaced. I would also keep track of any towing bills you might accrue due to this, and submit them as well.

The ECM "fix" lasted about 200 miles. Left me stranded Friday night. Brought car to Erin Mills Volvo, which is actually owned by same owner as Volvo of Mississauga, and they had no problem replacing the ETM ,no charge. Even hand washed my car.

B.T.W. Yes, it is only '02 non-turbo cars that have the old style ETM that is covered by the extended warranty.
