Well, i am seriously considering buying a used volvo for my next car and wonder if you guys could give me some advice - good points bad points, things to look for and what to expect!?
I am currently driving a BMW 318i Convertible and am pretty disappointed so am looking at a 2002 S60 D5 SE. Is there anything in particular i should be weary of? Are these reliable car, what sort of mileage should i expect to see?
Any help/advice would be very much appreciated!
Cheers

Should i join the VOLVO club!?!?!?!?!
Hi Stephen
I bought a 52 plate S60 D5 SE abount 3 months ago. Many that I looked at had high miles and I ended up with one with about 52000 on the clock. There are some around with less but there are not so many. The basic S60 D5 SE comes with full leather, 4 CD auto changer, and fog lights. Look out for one with extras such as electric memory seats (not standard in 2002) and a winter pack which includes heated seats (a godsend in the winter!!).
I find the D5 fast, but it does seem to roll sometimes when cornering - but then on it isn't a "sports" car. I find the interior spec better than anything else in the price range.
As for repairs, so far, I have had to pay a bill of

The D5 is the best choice of the S60's unless your wanting something much sportier.
There are two flavours of the S60, the 163BHP model and the 185BHP. The latter is oodles better than the form in terms of power and response.
I purcharse my 04 plate back end of last year with 24K on the clock. Over the average but I knew the previous owner.
As previously said look for the SE models hopefully the ones with Winter pack, as you get the leccy seat/bum warmers/ climate control, pressure headlight washers.
she a nice motor to drive and own, very quiet inside helped by the laminated door windows. The gear box is not to be rushed,, and she is a heavy beast so yeah rolls a little in the corners, but she'l l come with DSTC which is volvo's own Traction control/ 4 corner stability system which keeps you out of trouble.
The seats are more comfortable that most arm-chairs - excellent Stereo - pro-logic with either 11 or 13 speakers , and 4 or 6 CD disc changer.
Dealer maintenace is expensive so try and look for an independant specialist. They also eat front tyres, the P6 factory fitted ones are around

Cheers for that people, i have been having a look at some today - very nice. Very impressed with the 05 plate D5s - shame they are out of my budget! Still the 2002 models are very nice. Need to get my car sold and start looking for one seriously.

Just my two cents worth...Buy One! They are great cars despite all the complaints quoted here. I mean these are all real problems but these are really nice cars to drive. Maybe I have just been lucky but I have had my share of fixes but like my transmission mechanic says, "If it's got breasts or wheels, sooner or later it's gonna give you problems." How true.

I bought a 51 D5 about 9 weeks ago and so far jeffery (what we have nicknamed him) has been really comfortable and reliable. It was a 51 S spec'd up to a SE. It has the 4 CD changer (HSU-850), leather, bum warmers, 17" thor alloys and only 49K miles on the clock. Picked it up for
