Help! Transmission Arrow blinking and Car will not start

Post by iceman9001 »

Hi All,

I have a 1998 V70 (standard) with 168,000 miles, the transmission arrow on the dashboard and the lights on the gear W, E, S were blinking on my way back home yesterday. The dashboard shows the transmission arrow light blinking and check engine light on. Today I tried starting the car, it fired but died within 5 seconds. I tried to start again and it would not fire up. I moved the gear lever back and forth 20 times and the car would still not fire up. I don't have an OBD II reader and may consider getting one from Autozone if it helps my case. Does anyone an idea what could be wrong or alternatives to zone in on the trouble?

Hi Samir and welcome to the site.

When you say STANDARD, people here think you are taking about a 5 speed stick shift car, not automatic. I believe you mean NA, which means you do NOT have a turbo.

Besides that, you likely have a bad PNP swithch. The shifting it back and forth 20 times doesn't alway work. But you do need to get the codes read one way or another.

Hi RSPI,

Thank you for the heads-up, it was my first post on the forum.

I got the code, its P0755. According to my Actron code reader it is indicating Shift Solenoid B Malfunction. What does that mean?

Best,
